Blind Lifter is an account of Pat Leahy, a blind athlete who turns his bodybuilding dreams into goals and fearlessly pursues them. The documentary tells Leahy’s life story through friends and family and chronicles his training and participation in his first bodybuilding competition. It is a story of inspiration, adversity, hope, and accomplishment.

Bodybuilding takes strength, dedication and motivation, but it takes much more than that if you are blind. Pat Leahy recently entered his second amateur bodybuilding competition.

This competition will be featured in a documentary entitled Blind Lifter, focusing on Pat’s journey through life and the events that led him to pursue his athletic ambitions, including award winning bodybuilding, wrestling, swimming, and gymnastics, despite long odds. The documentary is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

We are especially hopeful that Blind Lifter will encourage children with disabilities to participate in extracurricular athletic programs, providing them with a well-balanced life, promoting self-reliance, and teaching the value of teamwork. Recently, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) found that students with disabilities were up to 56% less likely to participate in school-based athletic programs. Policymakers have since highlighted the need to increase the participation rate of 1st through 12th grade students with disabilities in athletics. We hope that Blind Lifter will be just the motivation and encouragement they need to get involved.
