Today, January 15th, would have been my Pappap’s 86th birthday. He loved good old country music, and at one point recorded his own versions of Kenny Rogers’ “The Gambler” and Willie Nelson’s “Good Hearted Woman.” These songs stick with me today, and on his birthday, specifically, I like to listen to them and just remember good times we had together. I was going to just post Kenny Rogers version of “The Gambler” here, but then I thought I’d explore the YouTube and see if there were any good covers— and there sure are! Most are just entertaining, some are awful, but there are also some pretty good ones. Below I will post a few of my favorites that I came across. When I was growing up, my mom and grandparents put a lot of their old family videos together and voiced commentary to them, so I dug that up on my computer and watched it tonight. I love hearing my Pappap’s voice in it, and it’s fun to remember how ornery he was! So, here are a few snapshots from the family videos, and some good/entertaining YouTube “The Gambler” covers. Happy Birthday Lambert Turner Jones!
Enjoy!
